The Creators' Compass - Day 3: Creative Discipline

Remember when I said creativity actually THRIVES with structure?

It took me years to figure this out the hard way.

After running myself into the ground...

I said "Enough".

I tore down my creative process and rebuilt it from the ground up.

Now, I have a routine where my creativity thrives.

I'm going to keep this one simple.

There's 2 keys: Intention and Consistency.

Being intentional with your time isn't as hard as you think.

It comes down to 3 things: Time, place, mission.

I'll give you some examples:

"From 5:00am to 7:00 am I will go to Starbucks and write for 30 minutes, then edit a new video."

"After lunch, I will take a 15 minute walk to relax and reflect on some new ideas."

"I will use this spare 30 minutes to read a new book and capture some new ideas."

An hour of writing, 2 hours of editing, a sunrise shoot, a few pages of a new book are all great...

But they're not enough alone.

The key to sustained creativity and productivity in anything you do is consistency.

This will take some trial and error - but you need to find some times that you can continually be intentional with.

For me - EVERY DAY, I know that I can rely on 5:00am-7:00am to be creative and productive.

And that is when I am able to make the most progress on whatever I am working on.

The formula is simple:

Intentional time + consistency = supercharged creativity and productivity.
